Manufacturer Provided Description
The center cockpit 445 possesses all the exemplary qualities that have earned Island Packet a worldwide reputation as the leader of cruising boat design and construction. Naval architect Bob Johnson and the Island Packet design team have created the 445 by combining the superior comfort, ease of use, seakeeping, and safety attributes that are the hallmark of every Island Packet, along with innovative new features and stunning good looks that will further reinforce Island Packet's position as America's Cruising Yacht Leader. Tankage and storage on the 445 is exceptional. All tanks are centrally located below the cabin sole, benefiting stability and interior storage space elsewhere in the yacht with minimal effect on trim. Every detail, from the geared rack and pinion steering system to the swedged and threaded fuel hose fittings, is carefully chosen for its important contribution to long term quality and reliability. Numerous details like magnetic reed bilge pump switches and thru-bolts with lock nuts on both seacocks and prop shaft couplings typify the approach to building every aspect of an Island Packet. Heavy duty, high output alternators with Digital Duo-Charge controllers, premium pre-tinned wiring, and large capacity absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries reflect the many quality features built into the 445 that help ensure the owner years of comfortable, trouble-free cruising.

GULLIVER is hull #94 of the venerable Nordic Tug 42 model.  GULLIVER has all of the little things that make the boat perfect for cruising in comfort, style, and ease.  She is VERY well equipped and cruise ready, with over $150k invested in cruising options.  She is available for sale as of now, and can be delivered anywhere on the east coast!

General Description

The Nordic Tug 42 features a roomy layout and a large ship-style helm. The bridge also features a large chart table, 360 degree view and convenient access directly to the deck. Powered by Cummins C Series, the Nordic 42's top speed is 18 knots, cruise 14 knots, or slow her down to 9 knots and burn under 3 gals / hour. Built to take the roughest passage with confidence, the hard chine semi-displacement hull gives this tug a stable quiet ride. The hull is hand laid fiberglass construction with full keel to protect the rudder and propeller. She features a spacious walk-around queen stateroom with private head, guest stateroom with head, U-shape galley, and large salon. All Nordic Tugs hulls come standard with an incredible 10-year hull warranty. GULLIVER comes with the very popular optional flybridge; a "must have" for the east coast and the islands.

Deck layout

Short-handed or even single-handed docking from the pilothouse is a breeze with this deck layout.  From the pilothouse, exit through either side door.  There are spring cleats on both side decks right next to the door.  Hand- holds and deck rails keep you safe and secure as you make the short walk forward to the bow cleats, port and starboard, samson post, and windlass.  GULLIVER features a double anchor roller.

Moving aft, the side decks and rail continue all the way to the cockpit.  Or, from the pilothouse, just go down the stairs and out the cockpit door.  High bulwarks in the cockpit, along with a stainless steel rail there, will keep you safe and secure.  There is a door to walk through the transom to access the swim platform.  The cockpit offers tremendous outdoor storage, including a cabinet, a very large lazarette, and fender storage built into the transom.  The propane tanks are also stored in their own container in the cockpit under the flybridge access.

That takes us to the next area:  GULLIVER comes with the very desirable flybridge option.  The stairs to the flybridge are the upgraded 7 inch wide threads, with the desirable improved angle to make them stairs rather than a ladder.  GULLIVER also sports a zippered canvas cover for the flybridge access, and her flybridge seating has upgraded full seat backs to keep you and your gear secure.  These are the details that make this area functional and enjoyable!

On the salon rooftop we find standing room and dinghy storage.  GULLIVER boasts a 10' rigid bottom inflatable AB dinghy and 15hp Yamaha outboard.  She is hoisted to her resting place by a Nick Jackson 650 lb low profile telescoping crane.  The outboard stays on the dinghy transom- no messing around there.

Up a few more steps to the flybridge helm station, we find Captain's and Mate's pedestal mounted seats, a comfortable L shaped settee (with custom, full thickness cushions), and a triangle shaped table.  This area is covered by a bimini top.  With the bimini and hinged radar mast down, she is an ICW and Great Loop friendly height above waterline (18').  The flybridge offers great visibility and the pleasant outdoors atomosphere with full control of the boat.  This is also a popular seating area for relaxing or entertaining, a very enjoyable "additional room" on board.

Accommodations/ Vessel Tour: Salon and Galley

Enter the salon from the cockpit door.  L-shaped settee and dinette table that converts to a double berth is to starboard.  Entertainment center is to port.  Engine access is through the sole.

GULLIVER has a custom overhead cabinet in the galley that dramatically increases storage room, and is aesthetically pleasing.  Forward and to port, the galley includes Corian countertops and a single oversized sink, refrigerator, freezer, trash compactor, and additional pantry storage.  The icemaker is opposite to starboard, just forward of the dinette.

GULLIVER features a custom additional easy chair and ottoman, two table lamps, extra teak features, and more.

From the salon and galley, there is access either up into the pilothouse or down into the living quarters (see descriptions below).

Pilothouse

The pilothouse offers excellent visibility, doors on either side to the side decks and forward to the bow, spring cleats just outside the doors, a centered helm station, captain's chair, bench seat with a small table, and a rear facing passenger seat.  That seat is VERY popular and facilitates conversation between captain and crew while also providing a GREAT vantage and control point for backing into a slip.  Among GULLIVER's numerous upgrades and advantages is the teak and holly sole in the pilothouse.  That feature, plus the teak interior of the pilothouse (also an upgrade), gives an attractive traditional look and complements the blue ultra-leather upholstery.

Trays, plates, etc are easily passed from the galley to the pilothouse via the counter over the fridge.  A custom teak rail keeps items from falling.

Electronics/Entertainment

GULLIVER has a full set of electronics, in the pilothouse and at the flybridge:

  • Raymarine E120 Chartplotter/Multidisplay
  • Raymarine Autopilot
  • VHF ICOM IC M504 in pilothouse
  • VHF ICOM HM162B/SW and hand held Standard Horizon HX270S on flybridge
  • Sony SW7600 SSB
  • Raymarine Radar
  • All instrument, displays, and controls are repeated at the flybridge helm station
  • Tracvision M3  TV antenna and Direct TV- gets reception up and down the coast and out to the islands
  • Flatscreen TV in the salon with Bose sound system, DVD and CD player

    Living Quarters

Down the steps and all the way forward is the master stateroom with 7 foot headroom, a walkaround island queen berth, cedar lined hanging lockers and cabinet and shelf storage port and starboard, additional drawer storage under the berth, overhead opening hatch, and opening ports.  GULLIVER has a custom mattress to give you the comfort of home (or better).  The ensuite head features a roomy shower stall, sink/vanity, and vacuflush toilet.  This area also features a full length mirror.

Aft of the master stateroom is the guest stateroom.  There is a VERY easily converted settee that makes a guest double berth, additional hanging locker and cabinet storage, opening port, and a combo washer/dryer unit.

Across the walkway to starboard is the nav station/ office area.  This station also houses the 12 volt and 110 volt electrical panels.  A single switch gives power to the 12 volt subpanel up at the helm.  The office itself has a comfortable bench seat, with hanging file drawer beneath, and a teak desk.

Just forward of the office is the guest head.  It also boasts a separate shower stall, sink/vanity, storage, and vacuflush head.  It's low in the boat and yet in close proximity to the salon and galley.

    Engine Room

Engine room access is through the salon floor.  Immediately down the hatch you will find 90% of what you need for regular maintenance: engine, genset, and air conditioner seacocks, oil change pump in/out system for engine, genset, and transmission oil, tanks, dripless packing gland, etc.

There are two 2 ft wide passageways on either side of the engine room to allow access to every single mechanical component.  GULLIVER is an easy boat to properly maintain.

    Engine Warranty

GULLIVER comes with an extended warranty, through July 2013 or 3000 hours.  The engine has also been VERY well cared for and consistently maintained by the sellers.
